Notes on Meditation

Taking time to yourself may seem foreign in today's busy world. After work day, it's all about unwinding and keeping everything as simple as possible. The way a lot of people unwind is through the media, and while it has its place, I wouldn't say it's the most relaxing thing for your brain. Heavy loads of information can overwhelm us and limit our abilities to be present in the moment. Sleep, for many people, is some of the only time that the brain gets its necessary TLC. It’s a commonly loved activity by people, and I believe that there is reasoning for that. The calmness we feel at rest is something to look forward to.

It is not solely sleep that can give this sense of ease however, we can experience this in the day. Meditation may be the first thing that comes to mind, and while this is excellent for its own reasons, it’s not the only way. Meditation doesn't just mean you have to sit silently with your legs crossed. You can meditate by doing something that creates a sense of peace within you. It can be through listening to music, going for a run, taking a bath, writing in a journal, doing a hobby of yours. All of these activities have the ability to reconnect you with yourself. This connection is powerful, you should never forget the value our your own wellbeing.
